ANDY MARTIN

Andy Martin, a gifted trombonist, was born on August 10, 1960 in Provo, Utah and immediately moved to Northern California where he was raised. He belongs to a musical family: his father plays trumpet and both of his brothers are professional musicians. Along with private studies with Charlie Shoemake and Roy Main, Andy was a student of music at California State University Long Beach and Golden West College with Tom Kubis.

By the age of eighteen he was already playing with top artists. Nowadays he is being widely regarded as a top jazz soloist on his instrument as well as being in high demand as a studio musician in LA. The Metropole Orchestra from The Netherlands, conducted by Rob Pronk and John Clayton, recently featured Andy in two nation-wide broadcasts just released as a CD.

Martin's studio credits are extensive. He has recorded with Neil Diamond, Paul Anka, Boz Scaggs, Barry Manilow, Les Brown and his Band of Renown, Lionel Ritchie, Brian Setzer, Steve Allen, LoveJones, Ana Gabriel, Vikki Carr, Simone, and the artist "formerly known as Prince" just to name a few.
Andy's outstanding solo and ensemble playing can be heard in bands fronted by Bill Holman, QuincyJones, Bobby Shew, Louis Bellson, Tom Kubis, Les Brown, Jack Sheldon, Justo Almario and Matt Cattingub. Med Flory's Supersax Big Band, Frank CappJuggernaut, Bill Berry's L.A. Big Band, Roger Neumann's Rather Large Big Band, and Bob Curnow's L.A. Big Band have also featured his innovative and provocative soloing.
Andy Martin Leading Off (RM 106) is his first solo album. The title refers to his life-long love of baseball and the San Francisco Giants. His latest album as a co-leader is Bill Liston-Andy Martin Express WALKIN THE WALK.
